New Dunkin Donuts opens in south Knoxville


A new Dunkin Donut opened in south Knoxville Thursday morning.

The coffee and baked goods hot spot will serve up treats from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant is located at 2800 Chapman Highway.

The newest location in Knoxville is one of 12 locations in Tennessee owned by Dave Baumgartner of Bluemont Group.

Driver admits to drag racing before Chapman Hwy. crash


Two people were hurt in a crash on Chapman Highway where a car was split in two Tuesday morning.

Knox County deputies said Christopher Fry, 28, of Seymour told police that he was drag racing in his black BMW against a white Infiniti, driven by Matthew Ford, 22, of Mascot shortly before 6:35 a.m.

Firefighter injured in south Knoxville house fire


A firefighter was hurt in a house fire Wednesday morning in south Knoxville but is expected to be okay.

Heavy flames were coming from the front of the house on the 3000 block of Heckman Street when firefighters arrived just after 7 a.m. The man who lived there had already left for work. When he returned, firefighters had already arrived.

One firefighter suffered injuries on the job, but he's expected to be okay. No one else was hurt.

Two cars hit and kill pedestrian on Chapman Highway


Officials released the name of the man hit and killed by two cars while trying to cross Chapman Highway Wednesday evening.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said two cars struck and killed 49-year-old Robert Covington Jr. as he was crossing the street at the 8200 block of Chapman Highway shortly after 7 p.m.

A passenger in one car and the the driver of the other were also hurt in the crash.

Baptist Hospital demolition deadline pushed back again


Demolition of the old Baptist Hospital continues, but once again, developers are pushing back the date to tear it down.

Rhodes Seeger, a developer with Blanchard and Calhoun, says he hopes demolition crews finish their work by the end of January.

Police looking for man who robbed a pizza restaurant


Knoxville police are searching for a man they say held up a pizza restaurant in South Knoxville.

Police responded to an armed robbery at Napoli Pizza off Chapman Highway.

Investigators say a man entered the store and robbed it at gun point. The robber grabbed a small amount of crash and ran away. Nobody was injured.
