All lanes reopened on Chapman Hwy following semi crash


Update 10:30 am:

Knoxville police have reopened all lanes of Chapman Highway after a semi crashed into a utility pole early Monday morning.

A semi-truck carrying six vehicles ran off Chapman Highway and crashed into a utility pole near Lake Forest Drive shortly before 3 a.m. The semi's fuel tank ruptured during the wreck, spilling diesel fuel onto the ground.

It took crews more than seven hours to clean up the fuel and haul the semi from the crash site.

Kidnapping suspect leads police on chase


A kidnapping suspect is in custody after he led police on a chase in South Knoxville.

Authorities say an officer spotted Jason Branner at a store on Sevier Avenue. He was wanted for aggravated kidnapping and parole violations.

The officer got behind him, and Branner sped off. Officers chased him down Sevierville Pike and eventually caught and arrested him.

In addition to his previous charges, Branner will now be charged with felony fleeing and driving without a license.

KPD: Suspect threatened 2 women, stole a car


Knoxville Police are looking for a man who cut a woman while trying to steal her car, then threatened another woman at knife point to get her car keys.

This happened on Sunday, March 30, just after 10 p m in the Kroger parking lot on Chapman Highway.

The first woman said she was sitting in her car when the man came up to her and started asking questions. She said he started yelling at her and demanded her car keys. As she drove away, he cut her hand with a knife. She was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Remains found belong to missing man


(WBIR) Knox County authorities have identified the remains of a body found last week in the Tennessee River as Derek Funk.

Divers found the body was found along with Funk's truck in South Knoxville in the river last week. The Knoxville Police Department is still investigating his death.

Funk, 19, had been missing since May 12, 2010 after he left his girlfriend's house in Powell.

Emery's 5 and 10 moving to Pigeon Forge


A long-time South Knoxville store is heading further South.

Emery's 5 and 10 announced it is closing its location on Chapman highway and moving to the Island in Pigeon Forge.

The store will hold a liquidation sale as it gets ready for the move. Store owners say all merchandise including gadgets, hardware, and toys is 20 percent off.

The new store will be close to the new Paula Deen restaurant and giant ferris wheel.
