A firefighter was hurt in a house fire Wednesday morning in south Knoxville but is expected to be okay.

Heavy flames were coming from the front of the house on the 3000 block of Heckman Street when firefighters arrived just after 7 a.m. The man who lived there had already left for work. When he returned, firefighters had already arrived.

One firefighter suffered injuries on the job, but he's expected to be okay. No one else was hurt.

Officials are investigating what started the fire. The American Red Cross is helping the resident find temporary housing.
