(WBIR - KNOXVILLE) One woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash on John Sevier Highway on Wednesday afternoon.
Shana Young, 38, of Hurricane Mills died while being treated due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Knoxville police officers responded to the crash on John Sevier Highway at the intersection of Norton Road and Mountain Grove Drive around 4:26 p.m. Wednesday.
According to witness statements and a preliminary investigation, a Ford Focus with Young and the driver was traveling south on Norton Road.
The driver disregarded the red light at John Sevier Highway, and as the Focus continued through the intersection, it was struck by an east bound Ford F-250 pickup.
The Ford F-250 pickup also had two individuals.
A blood sample was obtained from the drive of the Focus and will be sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation lab for analysis. Police said it appeared that the driver of the Focus was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The impact caused the pickup to flip onto its side. The occupants from both vehicles were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Charges are pending at the end of the investigation.
