Man who fell off cliff has serious injuries

UPDATE 8:10 am:

(WBIR) The Knoxville Fire Department rescued a man who fell a long distance off a south Knoxville cliff early Thursday morning.

According to KFD Spokesman DJ Corcoran, the man and his friend had come to a lookout area near Cherokee Bluff overlooking the Tennessee River after finishing work at a west Knoxville restaurant.

As the men were standing there, one of them turned around momentarily. When he turned back around, the other man was gone.

73-year-old suspect accused of attacking man with hammer

Update 9:10 am:

(WBIR) Knoxville police arrested a suspect accused of attacking a man with a hammer and stabbing him with a pocket knife.

Fred Thomas, 73, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Crews transported the victim, Bill Swann, to UT Medical Center for injuries that didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Officials said money could have motivated the attack.

KFD contains fire threatening subdivision and greenhouse

(WBIR) A brush fire scorched six acres Monday morning in south Knoxville, threatening a nearby subdivision and a popular greenhouse.

Knoxville firefighters arrived at Lippencot Street at about 3:30 a.m., where they battled the fire as it ravaged across the hilly terrain for several hours. Fortunately, crews were able to keep the brush fire from spreading to nearby homes and Stanley's Greenhouse.

The Tennessee Department of Forestry is now clearing trees so firefighters can access the burnt areas.

All lanes reopened on Chapman Hwy following semi crash

Update 10:30 am:

Knoxville police have reopened all lanes of Chapman Highway after a semi crashed into a utility pole early Monday morning.

A semi-truck carrying six vehicles ran off Chapman Highway and crashed into a utility pole near Lake Forest Drive shortly before 3 a.m. The semi's fuel tank ruptured during the wreck, spilling diesel fuel onto the ground.

It took crews more than seven hours to clean up the fuel and haul the semi from the crash site.

Kidnapping suspect leads police on chase

A kidnapping suspect is in custody after he led police on a chase in South Knoxville.

Authorities say an officer spotted Jason Branner at a store on Sevier Avenue. He was wanted for aggravated kidnapping and parole violations.

The officer got behind him, and Branner sped off. Officers chased him down Sevierville Pike and eventually caught and arrested him.

In addition to his previous charges, Branner will now be charged with felony fleeing and driving without a license.

Lake levels to rise, dock builders see more business
