Knox Co. Schools expects $13.9M in additional revenue

Several Knox County schools could see some much needed improvements after the district announced it could see $13.9 million more in revenue than it had first projected.

 

Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre said over the past several weeks it had become increasingly clear the district would see a financial bump.  According to McIntyre, revenue from three source areas seem to be better than the projections it originally had for 2012 Fiscal Year. 

 

Hundreds gather to celebrate sobriety

Hundreds of people are gathering in East Tennessee this weekend for a reunion to celebrate their sobriety from drugs and alcohol.

For the 23rd year, the Cornerstone of Recovery is hosting their annual reunion to celebrate the program's alumni and to help inspire those currently going through the program.

The program's message is simple: "Recovery does work."

Hundreds have gone through the program in the past. They say Cornerstone led to their recovery and sobriety. Alumni are thankful for that support.

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Tyler Bray completed 27-of-41 passes for 333
yards and threw for two touchdowns to lead Tennessee to a 35-21 win over North
Carolina State on Friday.

Cordarrelle Patterson hauled in six balls for 93 yards and caught a touchdown
and added another score with a 67-yard run. Zach Rogers caught a 72-yard
touchdown and Rajion Neal carried the ball 22 times for 53 yards and a
touchdown for the Volunteers (1-0), who posted a disappointing 5-7
record last season.

Wild Wing Cafe, 11335 Campbell Lakes Drive in Farragut, will host a pre-game tailgate party Friday. The venue will also have a 150-foot "extreme" screen for watching the University of Tennessee-North Carolina State game. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. After-party entertainment will feature singer Tall Paul.

Knox Co. learns about 21st century school initiatives

In Knox County, parents, teachers and community leaders learned how technology could be a tool for students' success in the classroom.

The Knox County Council PTA held its annual education forum in Downtown Knoxville on Thursday.

One of the speakers was the superintendent of a North Carolina school district. He talked about his district's "laptop initiative," which is equipping all of its students with laptops, interactive boards and iPads.

The superintendent said with the program, students are getting better grades and graduation rates are increasing.
